About the
Facilitator
Elizabeth M. Bieniawski, BA Honors (History), MS (Library Science) -
a genuine Scottish lassie - is
a historian and an information scientist having acquired her qualifications and
experience in South Africa. Her dissertation on the thesaurus and information
retrieval for rock engineering is listed in the catalog of holdings by the U.S.
Library of Congress. She met Richard during their graduate school research at
the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She was then the Assistant
Dean of the Women Residences where he was a frequent visitor... She won a
History Scholarship to Oxford University in England but preferred to marry
Richard instead!
They
emigrated to the United States in 1978, where she raised their three sons in
Pennsylvania while Richard was busy consulting all over the country. An avid
gardener, she grew vegetables and fruit to supplement the meager academic
budget. Later she created an award-winning flower and shrub garden and continued her gardening
hobby when they retired to Prescott eleven years ago.
She is an
enthusiastic reader of historical books, learned to speak Spanish at Yavapai
College and became a globe trotter with Richard, studying international
politics, culture and investing.
Over their
marriage of 45 years, she edited all Richard's scientific and technical
publications, involving 10 books and more than 150 publications.
They have
three married sons, all engineers, and EIGHT grandchildren!
