DETAILED LEARNING OBJECTIVES

SKELETAL TISSUES

  1. Know distinct features and their function of cartilage and bone tissue
  2. Understand process of bone formation and how it relates to the different parts of a long bone
  3. Recognize bony tissue and its distinct organization, features that can be seen in microscope
  4. Understand how bone forms and be able to see stages of bone formation in microscope slide of long bone

SKIN

  1. Review two basic ways in which cells organize into tissues:  epithelia, connective tissues
  2. Learn main two component layers of skin--dermis and epidermis as examples of connective and epithelial tissues
  3. Learn sub-layers of epidermis and of dermis
  4. Learn about possible skin problems, skin cancer, burns
  5. Use skin as a model for understanding how structure (anatomy), function (physiology), cell organization (histology) and embryology all relate
  6. Discern layers of skin in microscope and know function of various skin components
